New Lithium-Oxygen Battery Could One Day Power Electric Cars
The Cambridge University proposes to use a new type of batteries - Lithium-oxygen.
Cambridge University scientists are working on creating a new type of batteries - Lithium-oxygen. New batteries will significantly increase the cruising range of electric vehicles, and thus will be more profitable to their lithium-ion analogues, according to Financial Times.
It is not a secret that the power-reserve is a key for electric vehicles. And, despite of this fact most motorists prefer to buy a car that runs on traditional fuels - gasoline and diesel. However, the invention of scientists from Cambridge can make a real revolution in the auto industry, because they promise that, thanks to the lithium-oxygen batteries reserve of electric vehicles will increase!
Experts say that a standard set of lithium-oxygen batteries for electric vehicle would be about five times lighter than its lithium-ion analog and five times cheaper.
Experts from Cambridge stipulated that it would take at least 10 years before the lithium-oxygen batteries will go into mass production.
First Shelby Daytona Coupe, Chassis #CSX2287, Rolls Into SEMA
The #Shelby_Cobra_Daytona Coupe is one of the #rarest_cars to ever be produced, with just six of the originals having been built. This week, one of them was unveiled at the 2015 #SEMA show—and it is the rarest of the lot. The #Daytona_Coupe bearing chassis #CSX2287 was the first of the six cars to be built.
Carroll Shelby tapped designer Peter Brock to carry out his vision for the Daytona Coupe we know today. After the design process was completed and a satisfactory coupe, chassis #CSX2287, was built and tested at Riverside Raceway in California back in 1964, the car went off to Daytona International Speedway in Florida for its first race.
Later that year, the International Championship for GT Manufacturers was narrowly won by Ferrari over the Daytona Coupe, but in 1965, Shelby captured redemption with the Daytona Coupe and took home a victory over Ferrari. It was the first time an American team had won an international race series.
Porsche issues stop-sale on Cayenne Diesel in US
Porsche has decided to suspend the sale of vehicles with a diesel 3.0-liter engine in the US.
This was done immediately after the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the results of the investigation the engine V6 3.0 TDI, installed in Porsche cars, Audi vehicles and Volkswagen automobiles.
The scandal emissions of the Volkswagen started because of 2.0-liter TDI. The German manufacturer with a special equipment brought down the level of emissions of nearly half a million cars from United States. During this scandal the head of Volkswagen Martin Winterkorn has announced about his resignation, and later appeared under suspicion other top managers of the manufacturer.
Hyundai will launch Genesis brand in December
#Hyundai is about to go global with a new, high-end sub-brand called #Genesis. Rumors of this spinoff have been swirling for years, but an announcement Tuesday confirms that the Genesis brand will launch in #December of this year.
A Korean report states that Genesis will kick off with a new version of the Equus, set to launch next month, called G90. The rest of the lineup will follow suit with that naming structure (Infiniti isn't using it anymore, after all). The Genesis sedan as we know it will be called G80, and a new midsize model will be G70. A luxury SUV and sport coupe will round out the range, and all six models will launch by 2020. The rear-wheel-drive, midsize sedan is expected to debut in the second half of 2017.
